Derbyshire Tea Delivers to Downton Abbey (Apparently)
It was only a matter of time before Derbyshire Tea expanded its delivery round to include one of the grandest houses in the country.
Yes, we are talking about Downton Abbey in Yorkshire.
Word soon spread that our Derbyshire Tea van had been spotted outside the famous stately home, bravely crossing county lines to deliver a proper brew straight into Yorkshire territory. Naturally, this caused mild panic north of the border, especially among fans of Yorkshire Tea.
There was just one small detail.
Downton Abbey is fictional.
It is set in Yorkshire.
But the actual building is nowhere near Yorkshire at all.
The house used in the series is Highclere Castle, which sits comfortably in Berkshire. Quite a distance from God’s Own County, and even further from a Yorkshire Tea delivery depot.
That did not stop us.
Armed with our Derbyshire Tea branded van and a healthy sense of mischief, we parked up with the castle in the background and let imaginations do the rest. Before long, the story practically wrote itself. Derbyshire Tea boldly supplying Downton Abbey. Yorkshire left wondering how this could possibly have happened.

The truth is far less dramatic, but much more entertaining.
We did not invade Yorkshire.
We did not replace anyone’s tea caddies.
No county borders were harmed in the making of this visit.
But winding up Yorkshire folk is a long-standing local sport, and we like to think we played our part beautifully. If a few people believed Derbyshire Tea had delivered tea to Yorkshire’s most famous fictional household, even briefly, then our work was done.
After all, if you are going to stir the pot, you might as well do it with a proper brew.
